| Cameron Highlands | Transportation from Kuala Lumpur Airport to Cameron Highlands is Very Expensive? Posted: Mon June 4, 2007 07:11 AM UTC
Dear All,
I was planning to arrive to Kuala Lumpur Airport then get a car that takes me to the Lakehouse Hotel in Cameron Highlands. They told me that its a 5 hours drive with a hired car that costs around 500 US Dollars! Is that true? Its too much! Do you recommend any other ways of transportation? Are there any good transport offices that I can contact? Any vans that I can find in the Airport? Thanks all. VidER |

I don't recall I drove for 5 hours from Cameron to KL (I assume it will be the same vice versa). I just did a check with Hertz online and a hired car for a week will indeed cost about US$500 as it is 1608 ringgit a week.
Why don't you try a bus?

I checked the Kuala Lumpur local newspaper... from the advertisement and from some call I made (just to have fun asking question and all...) the price to self drive a car in KL to wherever you want to go, but return it back in KL is RM80 per day for the same car that use by most taxi company around city. when I bargain with them, I can get RM 70 per day.... so, try your luck, if you know anyone local, ask them to book it for you first ;)

Well, if you come with many family members ,good to rent MPV/SUV with 7/8 seater. It s quite easy and safe to drive here in Malaysia(compare to Mid east countries ^_^).Here is right-hand drive.Cameroon highland only 3 hours or so from KL by highway on normal day.But if it comes to school/public holiday might come to 7-8 hours(street jammed by local people go back hometown).
Rental for a MPV per day starts about Rm 250 without gasoline. You can find easily from local newspaper.

US$500??? Thats too much even for 5 days! It really depends on what car you want. Like mentioned earlier, rm250-300/day for 7 seaters, thats less than us$100/day. Saloon cars will even be cheaper. And gas is not expensive in Msia. I suggest you check Hertz and the rest of the reputable rental co out. Can get rates from their websites and see if they have airport pick up counters.
No, KLIA to CH is 3 hours drive max in good traffic conditions. For your info, there are 2 "entrances" to CH. Either via Tapah, which means you climb CH from its foot. Or via Simpang Pulai, which means you descend from the top of the mountain. These 2 exits are located on the highway leading to CH. Tapah first then Simpang Pulai some half hour later. If you are staying at the Lake House, take Tapah exit, for sure, as Lake House is near to the bottom of the highland. Btw, as it is near tht bottom, its not as cool as the temp up in the main towns. And also, Lake House is located far from the main towns and the places of interest. Do reconsider if you have not booked (The house is very charming but its surroundings are not. The Lake is a mud lake). You would need a car to drive up to the main towns (20min- 1/2 hour in good conditions) and attractions. If you decide to take other forms of transport up CH, then no Lake House, very troublesome. If you like similar charm, try The SmokeHouse.
