I heard that the government cracked down on private lessons and they want everyone to go to official schools that teach Arabic.

i recommend you to contact: Arabesk Studies in Damascus arabesk @ mail.sy or arabesk.studies (at) yahoo.com 00 963 944 849 057 (0944 849 057 from inside Syria) they are specialized in Arabic language teaching for foreigners students (non-arabic speaking) willing to learn arabic.
