| Maastricht | Getting to Maastricht from Aachen Posted: Fri June 1, 2007 10:37 AM UTC
I am planning on going to Maastricht from Aachen. They only lie about 15 km from one another, but since there is no direct train line running between the 2, the journey takes over an hour!
What is a quicker, better way to make this journey? Is there a coach that one can take? We will be a group of 4, so would it be better take a taxi? Any help is appreciated! |

The train takes 57 minutes (with one change in Heerlen), and runs hourly. There is also a bus (line 420) that takes about an hour and runs every half hour.
The distance between Maastricht and Aachen is a lot more than 15 km, btw. More like 40.

Thanks. I guess it is a bit farther than I thought, but when I looked on a map the distance as the crow flies looks to be about 25 km. Too far to take a taxi anyway. According to http://www.9292ov.nl the bus takes 54 minutes and it looks like the train takes 57. Not much difference really!

The local people in Maastricht used to call the route the Million Dollar line. We travelled on it perhaps 10 years ago and it appears that at some stage a major route was planned so there were 4 tracks built by the Germans but the Dutch didn't complete thir part so from the border it goes down to 2 lines and I think it might only be one. The train was a single carriage unit more like a tram but there was plenty of room. It's probably been upgraded now.
