Hotel LA PALOMA. We stayed there for 4 days and it was great! If the owner is the same guy that ruled it when we went there, you will feel great.

I have copied this parragraph from the internet right now:

Hostel Name: La Paloma Hotel
Address: 1 D Hon Chong, Nha Trang, Vietnam
Phone: +84 58 831216
This hostel does not currently accept online bookings
Please Note: This hostel does not currently accept online bookings through Hostels.com. Above is all the information we have for this hostel. Please use this information to book with this hostel, or alternatively choose another hostel.

It was cheap, even compared to Vietnam prices, and it was clean and comfortable, food was o.k, and the owner recomended us very good places to go to dinner and have fun!

Good luck.

If you want 2* marauding as 3* try Vien Dong Hotel. The only good thing about the hotel is its superb location....3 minute walk to beach. Otherwise it is extremely basic and reasonable. It has a pool, but use ear drops.

Since you have kids, I'd consider Amarana Resort which is pricey but you get something for it.

There are no mid-priced charming hotels. I guess you could buy some weed and pretend. To be honest, Nha Trang ain't worth the time nor the expense as it is just another tourist beach area with hawkers galore. The one redeeming factor is getting up very early, going to the beach and watch the locals use it.'Cause after 7AM it is mostly used by torists.

Good luck!

I do not feel the same way about Nha Trang as the other poster. My wife and I love this small city beach resort! There are many site seeing tours one can do. Stay at the Asia Paradise Hotel for about $35 USD/night. It has roof top swimming pool and 2 blocks from the beach. E-mail me if you like and I will give you the local viet travel company in Nha Trang that we have been doing business the last 4 trips to vietnam. He always beats the internet and the walk up rack hotel rates. kennbaker@msn.com

I think The 62 guest house on at 62 Tran Phu is the best hotel in Nha Trang . I stayed there with my friends and It cost us around $20/ a triple room ( about 7 dollars a person) The hotel has the beach view rooms. the room is very nice and the services are good ! The thing that i really love about this hotel is it's very near the beach !! you just need to go across the road to go to beach !! The hotel was Awesome

NHA TRANG ACCOMMODATION

Nha Nghi BA TU (Room 203 a must)
34-G1 Nguyen Thien Thuat Street
058-522-466 / 0905-369-867

Also AVOID TOURS - VietNam just needs a Roughguide or FROMMERS (new) [LP is ancient] - use either SINH or AN PHU Opentours for transportation (T.M.BROTHERS and CAMEL are simply dangerous with Trekking Travel and Hanh barely acceptable from a maintenance point of view.)

Can't help you with a good hotel in Nha Trang as mine was totally ordinary, however with regards to a good tour operator, I would recommend South Pacific Travel, and in particular their regional manager, Caroline (email: caroline_davies@southpacifichp.com) She's an Aussie and doing her best to make tours in Vietnam more memorable.

Have a good trip:-)

Please do not stay at the Vien Dong hotel. Me and my wife stayed there for 3 nights in 2005 and really regretted it. It looks alright on the internet site and its reasonably priced but thats about it.
Its a fair walk at night to the centre of Hoi An, the pool is 6ft deep at its shallow end and not very clean, there was a wedding which went from about 5pm till after midnight every night with loud music and karaoke, staff are rude and disinterested and I felt much safer eating street food than risking the breakfast buffet. On the plus side the rooms were large and clean if a little tired and its only a block from the beach.
I am sure other members will give you a lot better ideas though than this dump.
