Girona Recommendations for a Mountain Village / Area around Gerona
Posted: Thu May 31, 2007 02:01 PM UTC
Hi Everyone.
A friend and I are having a long weekend in the Gerona Area in July, we will probably head for the coast and maybe Tossa de Mar for a start, Then into the mountains for a day or two before rounding off the trip with a day in Gerona.

My question is can anyone recommend where to head for in the mountains within striking distance of Gerona, Looking for somewhere nice that maybe we could take an afternoon walk from, maybe somewhere we can stay in an agroturismo or B+B / Pension.

Thanks in Advance

I recomend you to have a walk to the high part of La Garrotxa (a part of the Pirenees). You can choose between hundreds of walks but I recomend to have a halk around Sadernes, where you can see some waterfalls and a nice part of the Pirenees.

You can sleep in Mas Espuella(a familiar rural house), placed in the village of Argelaguer (35 minutes from Girona city center).

Of Course I know Ribes de Freser. Ribes de Freser (and also Camprodon, Ripoll, and others) are nice cities of the central part of the East Catalan Pirenees. This cities are quite beautiful, but if you want to have a walk I recomend to visit la Vall de Nuria, a beautiful valley in the top of the Pirenees. To arrive there you have to take a special train from Ribes de Freser called 'El cremallera'.

Enjoy this trip!
