| Bodrum | Greek visa for Rhodes or Kos? Posted: Thu May 31, 2007 12:00 AM UTC
If I go to Rhodes or Kos from Bodrum via hydrofoil for only a day, do I have get in line for a Greek visa? Anyone know if the Colossus of Rhodes is still standing?

Opps, did I say Colossus of Rhodes? I meant to say Mama Sofia's Tavern... hehe. Thanks folks. I'll cross Rhodes off my list and hang out in Bodrum.

I cruised to all and did now knowingly get a visa. Only in Turkey did I neeed to get one and a tourist visa is readily available at the aiport or port (they seem to have the tourist trade in order...lol).
As mentioned you're a bit late for the Colossus, but...the harbor is still impressive and worth a visit. I found the fort to be quite interesting as is the difference between the modern and oldern sides of the the city. I'd go.

Hi, I'm afraid everyone is right about the colossus but Rhodes town is lovely and well worth a visit if the night life and busy atmosphere of Bodrum is tiring you out. The hydrofoil to Rhodes takes about 2 hours and you will need to check at Bodrum Marina for the day that it leaves... The two places are historically linked by the Knights of St John (extensive building works!!). Kos trip goes daily and only takes about 30 minutes - you can see Kos very clearly from Bodrum. There are some smashing archaeological sites on Kos but it is more quiet than Rhodes town. You will need to bring your passport but you will not need a visa. Have fun :-)

I appreciate your replies and yes, I'm a US passport holder.
I initially planned to leave my passport at the hotel safe back in Istanbul and carry a photo copy with me while travelling, but it seems as if I should bring the actual passport. I will do so, and will visit Rhodes if my itinerary coincides. Warm Regards, Kham

When traveling the Med and jumping countries you should always have your passport with you. Most times I've not had an issue, but there's always the one time... heh...as my daughter found out on a night train across Europe when she was "rudely awakened" at 3 in the morning while crossing one border. Luckily she had taken Dad's advice. I always also carry a color copy of the front page with me. That way if I do leave it in the safe while wandering a town and need it, I can at least prove I have one and hope I'd be able to go get it. That only happened once when I had it in my bags which I could get to, but my wallet was easier.
