| Galway | Local people interested in helping out student photographers . . . Posted: Wed May 30, 2007 11:14 PM UTC
Hello all,
My name is Nicholas Draney and I am a 25 year old photojournalism student at Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, Ca, U.S. I am coming to Ireland in Sept./Oct. of this year with a group of 15 students who will be covering, for five weeks, stories about or on the people or the culture of Ireland. We will be spending the first week or so in Galway, where we will be covering a group project. After which, all of the students will go their separate ways to cover their separate stories for the remaining time in Ireland. The end result of the trip will be a culmination of all of our projects into an Audio/Visual show at a theater here in Ventura and Santa Barbara, as well as the production of a Book and DVD for sale. We are still in the early stages of our planning and many of us are still in the first stages of research. We all want to do a superb job so we can come away with a quality product accurately reflecting different aspects of Ireland. If anyone out there has any tips or advice on Galway or the country itself, please do not hesitate to contact me as I would greatly appreciate any knowledge or foresight into this project. Thank you!! Nick |

Hi Nick. Welcome to Virtual Tourist (VT). There is already a wealth of information here on VT. Type Ireland into the VT Search Window above and you will have access to all member Travel Pages on VT. You can create your own travel guide by clicking on the proper link on the pages you want to save.
You might have the students each choose and area or town in Ireland and do a VT Search on it. Then have a meeting and share your information. It will quickly become apparent what you want to pursue. You will find in the Tips on the Travel Pages many links to outside sources of information that will also be helpful to you and the students. You may enjoy all the VT photos here too. There are some excellent photographers on VT and they are kind enough to share their photos with all of us. Please remember everything here belongs to the people who put it here and may not be copied without permission.

What an amazing opportunity! i would love to have been involved in something such as this.
I went to Ireland last fall and am an aspiring photographer (i hope) and came back with over 600 photos from 9 days there and 3 days in london. of course the ones that stick out are the ones i wish i stopped for another second at the red light to take that photo or when my batteries died and the moment was gone. there are really so many amazing sites to see. old and clear, historic and breathtaking. I wish to have a chance to go back again. email me if you would like any feed back on what specific you are looking for. i would be happy to help.

A second day could be spent driving the Connemara Loop, which is so, so beautiful. Be sure to see Kylemore Abbey and Connemara National Park. We also really like Aasleagh Falls near Leenane.
I have many ideas. mkelly1211@yahoo.com Good LUck and If you want to meet farmers, I'll introduce you.
