Can anyone suggest some good places to have breakfast in Positano, including some near our hotel? We will be staying at the Eden Roc. Thanks!!

It is an unusual european hotel that does not offer a standard continental breakfast!. In many european countries the custom seeems to be that one literally breaks fast with a cup of coffee and a piece of bread. I am quite sure you will find plenty of cafes offering breakfast - but do not expect bacon and eggs.

I was so surprised to hear about a hotel that does not offer breakfast that I looked yours up via Google. I think you have been misinformed.

As Barbara says, the Italian idea of breakfast is not the English or North American idea (I have no idea where you are from). As she says, an Italian breakfast is light, with bread (sweet or not), fruit, coffee, tea, and not a lot else (but, obviously, it varies).
Many places that cater to English speakers specify that they provide an English (ham, eggs, toast, mushrooms, baked beans, etc.) or American (bacon - but not American bacon! - and eggs) breakfasts...but this is normally found only in tourist hotels. You may find places that provide the equivalent of what you might find in The Netherlands (and the UK) - sliced (cold) meats and cheeses, bread, jams, etc. Honestly, Italy is where I learned to stop eating breakfast, since they place much less emphasis on it than North Americans...go to the local bar (what you call a cafe), have a capuccino and a piece of bread or whatever, and get on with your day. If you find this hard to take, well, do what some Italians do...have an "espresso corretto" (small cup of strong coffee, with a shot of brandy added)...yes, I have seen people drink this on the way to the office ;-) Bill

I am more familiar with the eastern half of Positano and there is not much in the way of a breakfast place. About halfway down to the beach from the Eden Roc there is a pastry shop on the right side of the main and only pedestrian street, but I am unsure when it opens in the AM. Somewhere on the VT pages there is a tip on this place.
At the beach, the only possibility is at the Buca de Bacco hotel and the open air restaurant underneath it under different ownership. As above, breakfast is not a big deal outside the tourist hotels.

Hi
The Eden Roc supplies breakfast according to their website - http://www.edenroc.it/welcomeing.htm. Quote: "Enjoy a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, an assortment of cereals and fresh pastries in the attractive dining room." Their room rates quote "Rates per room including breakfast buffet". Mangia, mangia!
