Can anyone tell me if they have stayed in Hotel Villa Azaela in Baveno and what the area is like and any good restaurants that could be recomended

The Villa Azalea is not on the lake front, but some of the rooms have a lake view. I never stayed there, but it looks nice and comfortable.
About restaurants, you will find a list in thise webpage: http://www.baveno.org/eng/baveno_pages/ristoranti_pizzerie.htm Among them, Il Gabbiano is a good one, but the cuisine is not typically local, it is more of a mix of Italian and international. I am a big fan of Lago Maggiore. I have spent a week there at the beginning of May and I have just created a page about it here on VT.
