| Nadi | Do I need to get any Fiji money if staying at a resort?? Posted: Mon May 28, 2007 08:05 AM UTC
We will be staying at a resort in Fiji and are not intending on venturing outside as we will just be relaxing by the pool. Is there likely to be any need to get any Fiji money? If there is, should we just change it at the airport or at the hotel or are we better off doing it before we leave home? Thanks

No you don't unless you need to take a taxi anywhere. If you don't leave the resort no problem. If you do any tours it is lhandy to have some money in case you want to buy food or drinks etc. so maybe changing $100 would be a good idea.

Yes you will definitly need some Fiji money fopor other incidentals. if Fiji it is the norm if you use your credit card, a surchage will be charged on top of the price. As for money exchange, it is better you change it at the airport, you will receive a better conversion and also they dont charge commission.

Actually using your credit card is the best option if you're only going to stay at a resort as you can charge purchases in the resort to your room then pay one bill at the end of your stay... its true they do charge a 1-2% surcharge on your bill, however its also true that credit cards get a conversion rate of 1-4% better than the airport conversion rates because they do their transactions using the bank to bank conversion rates, so either way you win out or break even just using a credit card.

Yes but if it is a good one it should have a money changer anyway or even atm inside it. It is good to have cash for shopping for little souvenirs that may be sold outside/near the resorts, especially those sold by locals-cheaper too unlike the souvenir shops at resorts. At any case, you can also buy reasonably priced souvenirs at the airport duty free shops if you want.
In case you get sick of the ofod in your resort and you want to eat out then you might need Fijian money but foreign money is easily exchanged even in supermarkets at Nadi! So no worries, use your plastic if you want.
