Re: Camping on The Island? Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 09:55 PM UTC
Rathtrevor Provincial Park near Parksville is certainly one of the most beautiful places to camp on the Island, with big old-growth trees, an incredible beach and lots of well-maintained sites. It's about two hours north of Victoria or 20 minutes north of Nanaimo if you're taking the Vancouver Ferry.
For more deep wilderness camping try Kennedy Lake, a forest rec site, a half hour drive down a gravel logging road off the main road to Tofino. Toquart Bay is another good one on the west coast of the island. You really can't beat the island anywhere for beautiful wilderness camping opportunities.
check out the Backroads Mapbook , probably the most important resource you can bring with you. It lists just about every road on the island, gravel or otherwise, with details about fishing, camping, hiking, paddling and more.
