Malcesine Travel Forum

Hi,

Me and my girlfriend are going to Lake Garda at the end of June. We land at Venice Marco Polo on a Friday morning at 10am. Am I right that we get from the airport to venice train station? (can we catch a bus to there?, then get the train to malcesine?

Any help would be greatly recieved!

Hi

There are three ways to get from Marco Polo into Venice: the first is to take the expensive boat shuttle; the second to take the tourist bus and the third, by far the cheapest at a few Euros, is to take the local bus.

If you will be in Venice for a day or more, buy a book of tickets for use on the vaparetti (boats used as buses in and around Venice) from the kiosk inside the airport terminal, for one of these is valid for travel on the local bus into Venice too.

However, if you just want to go directly from the airport to the station, buy a single ticket from the kiosk inside the aiport and wait outside the terminal for the bus (ask exactly which stop you should wait at).

The bus (journey takes around half an hour) will arrive in a huge square named Piazzale Roma which will have many other buses too, so you'll know when you have arrived.

Walk towards the canal on your left and when you reach the water, turn right. Walk a hundred yards or so to a beautiful bridge over the canal. Cross the bridge and then turn left. The station is the huge building (with many steps) ahead of you on the right.

Enjoy your trip. Garda is fabulous (but try not to miss Venice too!).
