Xi'an questions regarding places in xian
Posted: Thu May 24, 2007 10:53 AM UTC
1) Where is Wild Goose PAgoda? Is it the same as little goose pagoda or big goose pagoda or is this a different one?

2) the Tang Dynasty Show, is it in Tang Dynasty Arts museum? What is the show all about? How much is the entrance fee?

3) Where is the entrance of the city wall?

4) the history museumis the Shaanxi History Museum, right?

Is it worth going here:
1) Grand Buddha Temple
2) Banpo NEolithic Village
3) Temple of 8 immortals

Also, how much do you guys think is the perfect budget for Xian for may 3-4 days, excluding the train ticket? Is 2500RMB enough? I'm only staying in a backpacker's hostel so it'll be cheaper

I never heard of the Wild Goose Pagoda, it sounds like a wild goose chase to me. The Shaanxi History Museum is very worthwhile, you can get there on the tourist bus (Nr 611) Banpo is a bit of a joke, I would only visit if you have time to kill or an interest in archaeology. The temple of the 8 Immortals is also worthwhile.

1) There're only the Big and Small Goose Pagodas. No Wild Goose Pagoda.
3) Quite a few. What are you looking for?
4) Yes. Definitely worth visiting.

I think they answered some of your questions. I'd like give you others information.
2.If you have time, you can stay in Tang Dynasty from 1:00PM to 9:00PM. There are various folk shows according to the timetable. At the end of the show, from 8:30 to 9:00, there is a water film. If your time is limited, you can stay there from 5:00PM to 9:00PM. There is a dancing show in Tang style, it's worth to see. The entrance fee is 50 yuan, and the dancing show is 100 yuan.
There are other places to see, I recommend Qian Tomb, and if you are interested in Buddish, you can put Famen Temple into your list.
Old city wall, big mosque, muslim corner, bell tower, drum tower, little goose pagoda.

I plan to go to Army of Terracotta and Huaqing.
1) Is it safe and convenient if I just go there by public bus without joining
the tour?
2) How long does it take to go to Army of Terracota?
3) The bus to Army of Terracotta Warriors, I heard that the round trip ticket
was 8RMB. If I purchase that round trip ticket, can I go to army of
terracotta first, then go to huaqing, then go back to xian using that round-
trip ticket?
4)Is spending half day in Terracotta and Huaqing enough? Or it should be the
whole day?
5) Is Little Goose Pagoda worth visiting?
6) I also plan to go to the city wall using the bike. How long will should I
spend biking around the city wall? Half day?

Sorry if I have so many questions, it'll be my first time to travel alone so I need all the help I can get.

1) Yes, totally ok visiting Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Pool by public bus 306. Personally I would skip Huaqing Pool as it's overpriced and overrated.
2) About 70 mins on that bus (306) from Xi'an train station to Terracotta Warriors.
3) That has changed. It's now 7 RMB each way from Xi'an train station to Terracotta Warriors (and vice versa). No more round-trip ticket.
4) Terracotta Warriors will take about half day including travel time. As I said earlier, no need to go to Huaqing Pool.
6) At least 2 hours.
