| Andorra | pas de la casa Posted: Tue May 22, 2007 05:30 PM UTC
A couple of mates and i are thinking of heading to Pas de la Casafor a ski trip around feb08. We are coming from perth, australia. So flying to barcelona i assume would be the best bet? whats the best form of transport to get there in & how much does it cost to get to this resort from barcelona by it?
any other advice would go a long way so please get back to me kris :) |

Are you coming from Australia just to ski in Pas de la Casa?? I find this a bit odd, Pas is a pretty good ski station, but definitely not the best of Europe. Unless you are going to Andorra for any other reason, I would a) go to ski resort closer to Barcelona if you are flying there or b) forget about Pas and go to a ski resort in the Alps (this would be my choice)
from Barcelona to Andorra there are buses, but it takes a few hours

well, it could be good reason... for me to avoid Pas ;))
Certainly there is some nightlife. I've not been there for a while and I assume is like the last time we went there, and decided that next time we would avoid any place taken by Brits!!! ;)) But hey, I'm not the best advisor regarding this. When we (my friends) go to ski we don't look for nightlife, and vice-versa (when we want to party we don't go to the Pyrenees).

Hi!
The best way to get to andorra is flight to Barcelona and then it takes about 4 hours to get to andorra by bus. Night life in Andorra is rather active during high season and rather cheep. U can also find some usefull info here: http://forum3.andorramania.com/ and www.hola-andorra.com

Hi, you can either fly to Barcelona and there should be several buses, either Novatel or Eurolines, leaving from BCN airport to Andora La Vella throuhout the day. the tickets are about 33 Euros. From Andorra La vella to Pas takes about 30min drive on a local bus, there are quite a few during the day and the ticket is 4.5 Euro; last one is at approx. 22.00h) From barcelona takes 3-3 1/2h to La Vella if it's not snowing heavily. Or you can fly to Toulouse in France, 3h to Pas, either take Novatel (runs 2 times a day so check the timetable first) or try to get a transfer with any of the touroperators there as they'll sell places on their transfers if they have spares ( However most of them had flights/transfers only on Sundays). I've spent whole last season in Andorra and would recomend Soldeu or Arinsal rather that Pas. Same cheesy nitelife but Pas looks like a concrete jungle comparing to Arinsal and Soldeu. Also, check snow reports prior to booking anything as the last winter was very warm in Andorra.

Don't worry about the snow, past season (2006/2007) was a speacial, everywhere in Europe was quite warm, also in the Alps.
Grandvalira has a really good and modern snowmaking system whit nearly 1100 snowguns ! And the slopes are located between 1700-2600 m. Normally the season begin in late November(early December) and the lifts are working till mid/late April! Pas de la Casa has a really good night life with tons of club, if you prefer housea and electronic music, then Underground is the place to be. Also Caldea in Andorra la Vella worth a visit. Caldea is the biggest mountain aquatic center in whole Europe! You can also do heli ski for 150 € (flight, guide+insurance) or do a snowmobile (ski doo) tour. There are lots of things to do, and if you want, you can make a really good ski vacation with lots of activities. we will be there from 24th March.

btw, Grandvalira is one of the most modern skiresort in Europe and has nearly 200 kms of well groomed slopes. Also offers some great funparks..
If you want you can purchase the Andorra Skipass (more info at: www.skiandorra.ad), which is also valid in the Vallnord Skiarea ( www.vallnord.com ). Vallnord offers two resorts; Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalis. There is a free shuttle bus from the capital city of Andorra. If your accom is at Pas de la Casa, then: Catch a local bus and go to Andora la Vella, from there you can go again with the free shuttle bus to Pal-Arinsal. Otherwise catch a taxi, I don't know about the prices, but I saw somewhere, that the taxi costs 1 €/km. My advice: if you are skiing in Vallnord, then purchase the Vallnord Member Club, it's absolutely free and you have some great discounts in several shops, restaurants, spas etc..
