Will be spending a couple of weeks in Pindi and am looking for good local car hire (self-drive). Be grateful if anyone could recommend a reputable and not too expensive firm.

You better check the rent a car showrooms at Committee chowk Rawalipndi, their chrages're reasonable. There're many rent a car showrooms so you can go there and get a car. Tres bon voyage. Imran Schah

I am not sure if you will be able to get a car that you can drive yourself. The cost might be the same if you get one which is driven by their employee. Another option is to get METROCAB/RADIOCAB. They ususally charge Rs 1500/- for 8 hours and 100km. Maybe be cheaper then others.

colin never go self drive its crazy over there and if you crash or the car gets stolen you will hve to pay if you get it with a driver he/they are responsible and its the same price with or without a driver plus they want a copy of a locals id card to bil them if any problems plus the cop will stop you a lot and the locals are used to the roads it will be the same rate anyway, can i suggest you get friendly with a local and travel a short distance to gujranwalla or gujjerkhan about 20 minutes up the gt road prices will be cheaper and i the local explains it is needed for a longer period you will get it cheaper they turn up with the car a.m and take the car with them at night or sleep in it if you travel far. never however show your face near the car rental as the price doubles for non locals, try and get a older 80's toyota and not a newer honda as they are more expensive...wear your seatbelt they wont and drive like looneys, must get with a driver dont risk it no insurance expect to pay 2000rs a day for a new car to 600rs a day for older with a driver plus you pay for the fuel and tea breaks etc have a look at my pages regards Tony
