| Corfu Island | first holiday in Corfu...need advice Posted: Sat May 19, 2007 09:26 AM UTC
Hello,
I've booked our holiday to Corfu for the end of September. Can anyone tell me what's the weather like there at that time of the year? Need light jacket or trousers? We're staying for 1 week and would like to see as much of the island as possible. Any recommendations where to go, what to see? Thanks in advance. |

Hi Sara, don't worry about the weather it will still be hot over there but you might get a rain shower though. Corfu town is a great day out with plenty of shopping and good food

jacket or trousers will be helpfull. not something heavy, but you may need them at the end of September, as Corfu is north.
as for suggestions, take a look to the VT pages about. they have interesting things, so may you dont need more. enjoy Greece K S

The Weather will be fine. We went there in early October last year and it was fantastic. We drove around the whole island in one week. A great place to go is the fortress in Corfu town, the shops there are also amazing they're in narrow roads and there is a very chique feeling to it. Try eating a slouvaki (pitta with grilled meat or vegetables with chips and a few nice sauces), the version of fast food in Corfu, just on the corner from McDonalds opposite the fortress car park.
The other place that was amazing was paleokastrista (west coast literally lined with corfu town, you can see the beach from the top of the hill and there are several caves and the beaches are small but they were quiet empty and the colours from the sea are beautiful torqouises. Don't go to Sidari or Kavos these are great if you are looking for a non-greek town, where they have only burgers on the menu and bars after bars and more bars the beahc there is also non existent but it doesn't matter if you into bars. We stayed in Kalami, Northeast coast and all the beach along that coast were spectacular, they were very quiet and snorkelling was a great experience. There is a tall mountain as well which I can't remember the name now that is worth visiting as you get 360 views including views of albania, there is a monastery at the top. Go on a boat trip which includes a sunset bbq, it's meant to be really good. The aquapark was great, it was practically deserted which meant no queues and the slides were really good, including the lazy river and the wave pool, this was brilliant and only about 12 euros per person. I think I have given you enough info. Have a great time, we did and we're going back again this year.

Definately avoid Sidari and Kavos. Cassioppi is quite pretty by the harbour but is a bit touristy. We always stay in Kalami as it is unspoilt. It somehow is just magical, especially at night. A few tavernas or you can hop on the boat (free) run by Yannis and it will take you to the next but one bay called Agni. There you can have a fantastic evening at Nikolas Taverna where you can try many local dishes, all cooked by Pericles wife.(Nikolas was his father who sadly died a few years ago.) As you can tell, we feel part of the familly in Kalami. Take care if hiring a car, especially if you go up in to the mountains. It is fantastic and you will see the real Corfu but the roads are horrendous and the Greek drivers are mad! Enjoy. Kazalown (England)
