I have been trying to find out if tere is a connecting bus or shuttle between the bus station and the docks please

http://217.171.103.36/nbindex.htm is a journey planner which will give you details of bus services from the railway station to the docks. If it doesn't work, go to http://www.travelline.co.uk/acatalog/Journeyline.html and choose the South-West Journey Planner link.
The cruise terminals are not far from the bus/train stations, so you could get a taxi fairly cheaply if you don't want to hang around for a bus (I don't think there's a shuttle).
