| Simikot | trekking from Simikot to Mount Kailash Posted: Fri May 18, 2007 07:02 AM UTC
I plan to go to Mount Kailash via Simikot, ideally in July. I know this corresponds to the mansoon season, which implies frequent landslides and stones falling down.
However, seeing that Humla is pretty high and located in the far-west of Nepal, I wonder if rains will also affect this part of the country. For example, mansoon hardly reach Mustang. Is it the same for North-West of Humla district? |

Landslides/rockfall wouldn't be a problem on this trek on the Nepal side apart from a couple of places, and only small spots at that. The Simikot to Hilsa area is by and large in the rain shadow and you would not have so much rain as further south. See my Simikot pages here on VT. A travelogue details the trail. A colleague of mine is going to Humla for work in July, and his worries is about flight availability out of Nepalganj. You can easily be stuck there during the monsoon.
