I am thinking about a ski trip next year. How long does the ski season run in the Dolomites? When is the best time and when should I avoid going?Should I fly into Milan or Venice? does the train run to cortina or do I have to make arrangements for ground transportation? I know...lots of questions :)
-Thanks if you can help-Chris

Hi Chris,
My wife and I have skied in Cortina d'ampezzo two years on the trot. Your enquiry seems to be broader in as much that you ask about the dolomites. This is a very large area, with many resorts. Nevertheless, the ski season is generally pretty good, starting in November and finishing in April. Cortina itself is easily reached from Venice, other resorts Bolzano, Verona and Milan.
In the case of Cortina, when you book your hotel, just tell them you need transport from the Airport(Venice)and your name is automatically added to the exclusive bus service. When you arrive at the Airport, there is a concierge desk
for Cortina d'Ampezzo on the concourse. Just give them your name/s and they will do the rest, even escorting you to the bus. In turn, you will be dropped directly out front of your hotel. The whole journet from the airport takes about 3 hours. This is definitely the only way to go.
