Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Belgrade Dorcol, dunavski kej is it ok for tourists.
Posted: Fri May 18, 2007 12:59 AM UTC
Hello again,
Nearly time for me to visit but before I get there I have another question. I have been offered an apartment in Dorcol on road called Dunavski kej, can some one tell me if this is a good place to stay, on the map it looks like it is close to kalemegdan and central Beograd. Is this a nice neighbourhood or more like industrial. Once again Thank you in advance.
Looking forward to my visit 34 more days until we get there!

Hi!
Dunavski kej is very close to the industrial area, but stil belongs to the old town of Belgrade. Kalemegdan is close, Knez Mihajlova street, various museums and art galleries, St. Marko Church...from there you can take a walk for sightseeing.

Have little idea about your original question but I am going to White City on July 5 arriving in very early moringn; most likely I am proceeding to Despotovac (want to see Manasija) but have to go back to meet my wife and kids at Nikola Tesla in the late afternoon. Anyone would have mood to visit Despotovac with me? Thinking going by public transportation, "there" till Jagodin by Beograd-Saloniki train (if on-time) or bus, back by bus.

Thanks, I know bus is faster there just in the case I miss the first bus, the train to Thessaloniki departs much earlier than the second bus, so I will try to be flexible (unless someone will decide to come with me and insists on bus, than of course bus). Going back we already did see, the bus is much better.

Hello,
Dunavski kej is an OK place for tourists in my opinion. It is right on the river Danube and the lower part of Kalemegdan is walking dictance. The very heart of the center, Knez Mihailova is less than 5 minutes by taxi, and Strahinjica Bana, which is very popular for its cafes and restaurants is almost walking distance. Taxis are not that expensive anyways. The apartment buildings on Dunavski kej are nothing great (built during communist Yugoslavia) but it depends on the individual apartment. A friend of mine living in Korea has a newly renovated apartment available right in this area. She actually rents it out short term to business people. If your current arrangement doesn't work out, please let me know, and I will gladly help.

Regards,
