Ramallah From Jordan to Ramallah
Posted: Thu May 17, 2007 08:00 PM UTC
My brother and I would like to visit a friend in Ramallah while we're in the Middle East. We will be in Jordan and are planning on crossing at the King Hussein Bridge.
What is the best (in terms of time and money) way to get to Ramallah?

Thanks!

Hey :)

I recommend you first of all not to read travel warnings, but listen to what your friend in Ramallah says.
One day before you go ask him if everything is fine in Ramallah and then you leave Jordan in the morning, plan a lot of time for the allenby crossing (In my case it took 6 hours), then ask around if there is a bus going straight to Ramallah from there (I dont know if theres one) If not, ask for a bus to the OLD CITY of JERUSALEM and you can catch a shared taxi/minibus straight to Ramallah. Just across the street from Damascus gate you find the shared minibuses. In case of doubt just ask around. everybody is very helpful! Does your palestinian friend either have an Israel ID himself or does he have a palestinian friend who has one? BEcause then they can pick you up from Jerusalem and drive you straight to Ramallah without needing to cross any checkpoints (they are no fun and ull go through the "experience" anyway when leaving westbank again)

Your friends at home will most likely not be very excited if they hear about your travel plans, so rather tell it only to openminded people who wouldnt cause u troubles by traing to convince u that ur about to do something "dangerous". You are safe in westbank as a foreigner and even more if you have a local friend. I went to Jerusalem old city and Ramallah in february when you could see the worst clashes in the old city and in Ramallah downtown on TV. And I truly had some sleepless nights before going, but I relied on my local palestinian friends who assured me that nothing was gonna happen to me. When I arrived there were lots of soldiers and police, but I actually never saw a clash. Westbank has been so calm lately that it hardly made it into the news these days, so just goo and dont get confused by people like the first replier to this thread. He has never been there and so how should he know. Listen only to people who have been there!

ENJOY RAMALLAH!!! (I discovered my personal shopping paradise in this palestinian city heheheheh)

oh P.S.
DONT TELL ANYBODY OF THE ISRAELI BORDER STAFF THAT YOU INTEND TO STAY IN WESTBANK!! tell them youre going to west Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. They may not allow u into the country if you mention your Ramallah plans to them, or they may interrogate you for hours. If you intend to return to Jordan visa king hussein/allenby bridge remember that they dont issue jordan visas there.

Anyway I'm sure youre collecting lots of infos already, but if you should have questions just let me know :)
