| Beirut | Travelling with baby & toddler Posted: Thu May 17, 2007 05:34 PM UTC
My daughter is travelling to Beirut from Canada with a 3 month old baby & 2 1/2 year old toddler, can she buy good quality diapers for both children & what types of baby formula if any are available? Are north American style childrens foods sold there ie: Kraft Dinner type foods? They are visiting for 3 weeks.
Thanks J |

Consular Affairs in Canada write this on their website
Quote: 2. WARNINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OFFICIAL WARNING: Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada advises against non-essential travel to this country. Unquote The link to the page is http://www.voyage.gc.ca/dest/report-en.asp?country=159000 Jesper

Thank you for your prompt response which shows concern. I had already checked the travel advisory and passed them on to my daughter, she is travelling with her husband & they will be visiting & staying with family there. After the obvious concerns for safety, she is concerned about the childrens every day type comforts, that is why the question about quality diapers, formula & foods that her toddler will recognize & like.
Thanks again.

Hi Solovable,
Of course you can find high quality diapers , and everything else ...You'll be surprised when you come over. We have french baby formulas like bledina and I'me sure there are other brand...We all have or had babies ! Plenty of foreigners come to Lebanon and they love it ! In case you want to stay by yourself, budget, CLEAN, and CHEAP , think of EMBASSY HOTEL, located on makdessi street , Hamra, minutes from American University of Beirut, supermarkets, wine stores, cafés, ....Rooms are very decent sized, satellite tv, A/c, some of them have free wi-fi , and rates are super reasonable. Visit this link just for fun: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-reviews-486711-prod-trav Good luck Mira

Hi, yes Lebanon especially Beirut has everything you will need. Local supermarkets have so many international brands. There are also some massive hypermarkets like Spinneys and Carrefour who have many european and American brands. I think you'll be surprised when you get there! They have such a selection, honestly it's easier there to find international (esp. american) brands there than it is here in the UK! I'm sure you'll be fine :) enjoy your trip, Beiruts really such a fabulous city.

Don't worry too much about the warnings... but do note that some holiday insurance becomes invalid if you're travelling to a country where your consulate has specified not to travel...
saying that I ignored it twice in the same year and had the best time of my life... I wouldn't worry about getting anything in lebanon... it is quite weseternised so you can pick up a lot of branded stuff similar to north america... still not sure whether that's a good thing or not though lol...
