Caribbean and Central America Confused!
Posted: Tue August 19, 2003 02:15 PM UTC
Hello Everyone! I plan to have my honeymoon (early January) in the Caribbean however i'm very confused as to where to go. Been surfin the web and read the message boards, but it just added to the confusion. My plan is to either go Aruba or Jamaica 5nights stay. Need to know somethings, All inclusive or not? Night life, which city has the best? Shopping if any? A great romantic and safe place to be in. I have selected a few places like Sandals, Coupld resort, Hyatt or Marriot. Please help! THANKS! :)

Don't go to Jamaica - it an island for people on budget. Everything is kind of run down. Beaches aren't good.

If you are thinking about Aruba, I would recomment changing to Curacao. It is the next island, belongs to Holland, same nature/beaches as in Aruba but much fewer tourists and very few americans (most people are from Holland). I recommend Lion Dive hotel. It is right on the great beach, has seaquarium free for guests and plenty of tropical romance.
Note, though, that both Aruba and Curacao are not very lushy.
If you want tropical lush, then St. Lucia is the best. They have an expensive secluded hotel, I can look up the name for you.

I am strongly against all-inclusive places, but it is just my opinion.

Jalouise Hilton in St. Lucia is an all-inclusive resort which is really nice. It is located directly between the Pitons with it's own private beach. I was married there and the resort took care of all the details. They offer rain forest hikes, volcano tours and just about anything you could want.

Is this the one with red roofs? If so, I have a photo of it on my wall (taken by me)

If your asking about red roofs in St. Lucia, I don't really remember if the Jalousie had those or not. I do remember there are accomidations in Marrigot Bay (where Dr. Doolittle was filmed) with red roofs.

Hope that helped a little.

Hi!

Aruba is quite a place! It's a desert island (it barely ever rains) and is covered in rocks, sand & Cacti!

But dont misunderstand me, it's beautiful.... just different! (and lemme tell you, if you like jewellery shopping it's the place to be!)

It is more expensive than Jamaica though... so if you are on a tight budget it might not be the best place to go!

Have fun!

Hey! thanks for all the help, would like to follow up though. I guess i'm still pondering which area to go to, anyone know how Barbados is? I mean is it exciting or just layed back? In a nutshell I want to go to a place that's got some excitement like a good nightlife or sightseeing. Oh and the hotel has to be clean I mean no odd smells in the rooms as i've been hearing in some message boards. I'm thinking of Ritz Carlton in Jamaica does anyone know how it is and if they've got good activities?

Barbados is terrible!!! Don't go there. Beaches on West coast are bad, shallow with a lot of dead corrals. East coast is only for surfers. I stayed there at Hilton (south point of island) for $340/night. The hotel was good, beach always had a lot of big wave , everthing else was terrible.

Hmmm.. I'm still bothered by the 'safety' in Jamaica and not 100% convinced yet about Aruba. Anyone know how Puerto Rico is? :) suggestions on places to stay? got about 6days of honeymooning to do in the caribbean and really want to make the most of it. :)
