Bermuda What to do in the West End?
Posted: Thu May 17, 2007 05:39 PM UTC
Hi,
I am traveling to Bermuda's west end by cruise at the end of July. Since we will only be there for the day, I want to make sure I see/do the very best. Can you please let me in on a locals idea of a must do list? I do not want to get stuck in the tourist traps.
Thanks!!!

I can maybe help a little having visited the island a few times.
Try this link http://www.bermuda-online.org/rnd.htm to read a little about where you will be docked.
Basicly The Dockyard is for the tourist but that is not all bad if history and/or shopping is of interest to you
If you know the day of the week that you will be there it might make a difference of what is available although those things are aimed at the tourist.

If you really want to do something different than just 'tourist things' you could hire a taxi for a tour of much more of Bermuda for an overall look.
Are you interested in walking? 2-3 kms or more? Could make a suggestion for that.
Public transport is good a one day 'bus pass' would allow you to use ferries and buses to go a little further and cheaper than a taxi but without a tour guide to explain things and help you find your way around.
Will check back later and see if we can help with your plans and what you might be interested in.

This is a better link to the Dockyard. http://www.bermudatourism.com/216.aspx
That is the official government site and has links to the Maritime museum and Glassblowing which is another tourist attraction there.
You might want to try the rum cakes which I believe they give samples out.
