Please ignore previous post --Wrong Dates--
I will be in Santiago De Compestela from Sat Afternoon June 9 until Tue June 12.
Can anyone suggest an itinerary for me for Sun morning/Afternoon and Monday morning Afternoon. I wish to see as much as possible of the old town as posssible. I dont mind having to walk a lot.
Thanks

The old town of SdC is very small, and you should be able to cover the whole area in one full day. I would suggest you just wander around. Santiago is not only one of the most beautiful historic cities of Spain, but also one of the best preserved. Your most obvious starting point should be the cathedral and the four grand squares around it: Obradoiro (west), Praterias (south), Quintana (east), and Acibecheria (north). Rua do Vilar and Rua Nova are two of the prettiest and most historic streets. Quaint squares include Fonseca, Toural and Cervantes. Rua do Franco is a street packed with bars and restaurants. And finally, for the best panoramic view, walk to the lookout point at the Alameda, the city park.

Enjoy

An excellent day trip from Porto. Combines a train trip in the Douro Valley with a walk in the Archaeological Park of the Coa Valley, to view 21000 year old rock engravings..

Hi, During my 2 day trip to SDC in January, I enjoyed the audio guided walk. Hire an Mp3 player from the main tourist office (63 Rua do Vilar open 0900 - 2100hrs) for 12 Euros (50 euro deposit + I.D needed)The route covers most of the old part, and can take from 2.5 - 3 hours. As the tour covers the Cathedral, and passes by the Galician Folk museum (worth visiting for a glimpse of Galician life and the famed Triple spiral staircase- free admission), the market and various plazas, parks and churches you may find it takes longer. The rental of the guide is for 24 hours. Please visit my Santiago De Compostela page for more info about this walk and some of the attractions.

Happy Travelling,
Sue
