Hi, I'm very scared of heights and was wondering how high and secure is the first platform to begin the zipline tour.

There are 3 different zipline tours on Roatan, of 3 varying levels. I've never been on them, but you can probably email someone for more detailed info from this link: http://www.roatanonline.com/roatan_jungle_zip_line
As I understand it, the one at West End is the easiest, so that's probably the one you should look at trying. The most difficult one combines climbing walls and other obstacles, that's the one near Fantasy Island.

I did not want to do the zipline in La Ceiba because of my fear of heights so my husband had to practically drag me there. They had us do a "practice" run on a short zipline which helped, but the first step off the platform is the worst. Believe me, it is one of the most exciting things I've ever done and I can't wait to do it again! Don't miss out.
