I'm planning to getting to Tartu from Sigulda or Cesis, preferably, or maybe from Riga.

What are the best options with bus/train?

Adelaide

Hi!

There must be bus between Riga and Tartu. Probably it is Ecolines.

There's no direct bus to Tartu from Sigulda or Cesis, but the Riga-Tartu bus with both Ecolines and Eurolines leaves at 6pm and 7pm respectively, daily. There are a few buses travelling from Sigulda and Cesis to Valka, just over the border with Estonia, from where you can get a bus to Tartu at Valga in Estonia. That option is more of a pain but you could take a cab from Valka bus station to Valga bus station (about 2kms apart). The Latvian bus site (which often doesn't load well unfortunately) for internal travel is www.autoosta.lv. The international bus lines are ecolines.lv and eurolines.ee
A quite comfortable way to get from Sigulda or Cesis to Valka is by train, but it takes forever. It's the same train that leaves Riga at 5pm daily and is good if there are no tickets left for the bus.

Hi :)

As was already mentioned there are no direct routes between Sigulda or Cesis to Tartu. The bus schedules from Latvia and inside the country can be seen here:

Thnaks for your replies. It seems Sigulda will have to be a day trip from Riga then. Easier for not carrying luggage, a bit more time consuming though!

Adelaide
