Hello,
Dortmund and Dusseldorf are both located in the VRR public transportation area which means you can travel by local trains. The trip takes about 60-70 minutes and costs 8,70 Euro (VRR Ticket type C). Please check out the follwing website for more info about trains and tickets. It is even avaiable in English: www.vrr.de I hope this helps HORSCHECK

In the case you go there for a special event, e.g. a football match or a trade fair, there is a good chance that public transport is already included with the entrance ticket.

Thanks for your help. I visited the VRR site and there seems to be different day tickets I could get for travelling in the region . Could you explain what the difference is between Tagesticket 20.30 euro for the VRR REGION and Schonertag ticket NRW Single 21 euro, and Schonerfahrt ticket NRW ADULT 13.20 euro. Do they cover vastly different areas?

> is between Tagesticket 20.30 euro for the VRR REGION
a day ticket covering the complete VRR network > and Schonertag ticket NRW Single 21 euro a day ticket covering all local public transport in the state North Rhine-Westphalia. This includes the VRR and the 8 other "Verkehrsverbünde" in this state. One limitation compared to the above Tagesticket: SchönerTagTicket NRW is only valid past 9am on weekdays. And the price is now EUR 22,00. railroad network NRW http://www.nahverkehr.nrw.de/media.php?mv_id=-591302922 To give you an idea: NRW is nearly identical in area and population with the Netherlands. > and Schonerfahrt ticket NRW ADULT 13.20 euro. Do they cover vastly different areas? SchöneFahrtTicket NRW covers the same area as the SchönerTagTicket but is only meant for single trips and only valid 2 hours (which is good for most but not all possible trips inside NRW). The price is now EUR 14,00. With these tickets you can use ALL types of local public transport: - regional DB trains: S-Bahn, RB, RE - regional trains of private railway companies - buses - trams

Hello,
No Cologne isn't in the VRR region anymore. It ends somewhere in the middle between Duesseldorf and Cologne. Cologne belongs to the VRS region which is another public transport rgeion. There must be a PDF file available on the VRR website which shows the coverage of the VRR region. I hope this helps HORSCHECK :-)

Trying to get a price for train from Dusseldorf to Dortmund airport at 0700 18/07/07. Some of trains offered on www.vrr.de site don't have tariff C -8.70 EURO on them- Can I assume these are more expensive trains?

Hello,
I am not sure if the VRR Site also shows ICE or IC trains which are also in service on that route. You can't use VRR tickets for them. You might get a price for those sort of trains on the webiste of teh deutsche Bahn www.bahn.de. I hope this helps HORSCHECK

It has been a few years since I flew our of Dortmund Flughafen, but at that time they didnt have train connections. I dont think it has changed. You must take a train to Dortmund Hbf and then take a bus from there.
