Posted: Mon May 14, 2007 04:11 PM UTC
Hi, I was recommended by a friedn to see Cinque Terre.
I really need advise on the following:
- How to get there from Rome ? If train from which station and at which stop is recommended. I am in between Manorala or Vernaza
- Any recomendation on cheap hostel/local lodgings for 3 persons ?

Looking for your help on this, thank you so much.

try finding some thing on cinque terre at the rick steves web site.
i think this is an area that many of his tours go to. he has also done a few tv shows on this area.
as to the trains you can try ( www.idos.cz ) for the page in english/british click on the uk/british flag.

Hi I'm not sure of the train from Rome but Trainitalia has a good website with that info. I can tell you though because I've just returned from Cinque Terre this week that the train service from La Spezia runs hourly to the Cinque Terre villages, it takes about 15 minutes to the first, Riomaggiore, then just a few minutes between each one. It is possible to get one direct from Livorno or Pisa to the Cinque Terre villages. Are you thinking of staying in either Vernazza or Manarola or the place in between? I stayed in Manarola and preferred it to Vernazza which I found to be noisier, the train station is in the middle of the town and it is a busy line with both express passenger and freight trains going through it. Manarola is much quieter in every way. It's only minutes on the train between each village anyway at a cost of 1-2 euros. I stayed in La Torretta in Manarola, very good but may be more than you wish to pay. There is a hostle just above it which seems to have good reports on the Manarola page here on VT, check it out.

we have recently returned from staying at Levanto at the top of the Cinque Terre. We stayed at the Garden Hotel and can highly recommend it.
We caught the train from Rome and changed once at spezia ( I think) then on to Levanto. We chose Levanto because it gave easy access via the train, or boat each day to walk the cinque Terre. or to venture furthe North It is a gorgeous place and at the top of the Cinque Terre. Worth thinking about.
