Reykjavík Where to celebrate my birthday in Reykjavik?
Posted: Sun May 13, 2007 02:30 PM UTC
Hello everyone,

I will be in Reykjavik at the end of May, and it happens to be my 30th birthday on a Wednesday. I would like to celebrate Wednesday night with a couple of friends. Places that have been recommended to me are "Vegamot" and "Cafe Oliver" - apparently there's good food and nightlife. What do you think of these places? Especially on a Wednesday night? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you so much for your help, I would really like this to be a memorable day.
Cheers,
Belimone

Hello!

I have been to Vegamot several times and have enjoyed it each time. It's definitely a lively place - but not party-central. I was warned that it was terribly expensive but, I didn't find that to be the case. I mean sure, it's more expensive than many restaurants here in the USA but, that's to be expencted in Iceland. In any case, I found the prices to be reasonable. I've not been to Cafe Oliver but have walked by it many, many times. It looks quite inviting from the street and honestly, it's been on my list of places I'd like to visit. The two are pretty close to each other so, it's easy for you to simply walk by each and take your pick! Happy 30th to you!

Thanks for your input. I just wanted to report back. Went to "Cafe Oliver" in the end, and it was fantastic. The owner arranged a DJ especially for the occasion, and we had a great party. The food was also very good, and indeed quite reasonable for Iceland. The wine was expensive, though. I went back there on a Saturday night, but it was very crowded, so much so that you would get pushed around on the dance floor. But definitely happening.
