Livorno Travel Forum

We are visiting livorno next month and would like to visit Pisa and Lucca. We are a bit undecided which town to visit first. We want back to the ship for 2 pm as we have somehting organised for the p.m. If we do Pisa first we would leave Livorno at 8.00 arriving at Pisa around 8.30. According to the Field of Miracles web site it states that the Cathedral is not open until 10 a.m. and I would like to see inside the Cathedral. Can anybody advise me if the site is correct as the Baptistry is open at 8.30.

I have found the entire sites at the Field of Miracles open at 8 am , April to September. Since Lucca is only 13 miles away and the return trip to the docks in Livorno is about 35 minutes from Lucca, I would go to Lucca first and return via Pisa which is closer, only 15 miles to Livorno. That's the way my wife and I did it from our ship in Livorno, by rental car right at the dock and good directions from the agent with a map. Made it easy and very enjoyable to drive. Parking can be a little sticky but not that bad. If you drive and park on a street look for the time ticket dispensers meter and place the ticket inside your car in view of the window. i am going to be honest with you - pisa is not all that great - the field of dreams is okay but takes little time - not that it is disappointing - but there is a lot more to see in sunny italy than the field of dreams.
