| Milos Island | To go or not to go? Posted: Sat May 12, 2007 02:29 PM UTC
Here's hoping someone can make up my mind. Me and my husband will be in Paros for 5 days and we have 3-4 days to spare b/4 going to Crete for 10 days. We were considering Milos as an option since paros and milos are both in the Cyclades. I have no doubt Milos has wonderful beaches but we were wondering what the night life was like and if this is an island were tourists go or greeks go for vacation?
Also wondering where would be the best location for hotel (we like the hustle and bustle; were from NYC) and if there is transportation from Paros to Milos? Any regards would be greatly appreciated. |

Milos is a beautiful romantic island and I would advice anyone to go. It is very popular to both greeks and tourists. It is rather quiet but it is worth it.
Regarding transportation there are ferries connecting all those small islands. Other islands you can visit before arriving to Crete are Syros or Santorini (santorini is kind of crouded though). I do not think there is a greek island lucking nightlife so I am sure you will find something. My tip is asking the locals (young people)for advice. I can remember people in Milos being sooo helpful!! I want to take my fiance there at some point as I have beautiful memories from the island. Oh! By the way You will find a lot of nightlife in Crete. It is packed during summer.

Milos, the island of Lovers, is a wonderful vacation destination. In May there tend to be very few tourists, mostly Americans and Canadians. In June and early July Scandinavians are the norm, and late July and all of August Milos is flooded with young couples (hence, "Milos is for Lovers") mainly from Greece. September is a mixed bag, with all kinds of nationalities visiting the island, but also from Greece, Germany, France and Italy.
Nightlife is very good (see my "Milos Nightlife" tip on VT, http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6c3f5/66ab3/5/ ) with most bars/pubs located in Adamas. Also, there are notable spots in Faros, Paliochori, Pollonia, Plaka and Fyropotamos. Some of the nightlife spots not located in Adamas may not be open until late June, however. If you like "hustle and bustle" then you'll want to stay in Adamas, but do not expect anything remotely similar to NYC, however, lol! Check out www.milos-hotels.org for an official list of all hotels in Milos, as well as my tips on VT regarding accommodation in Milos. The ferry Panagia Hozoviotissa (named after the famous monastery up on a steep cliff in Amorgos) connects the southwest Cyclades 4 times a week. Unlike many other ferry routes, this one stays the same year-round. Three times a week it goes counter-clockwise from Paros to Serifos, to Sifnos to Milos, and on Fridays it goes clockwise, from Paros to Naxos to Ios, to Sikinos, to Folegandros to Milos. Depending on your itinerary, you may opt to fly to Milos instead, taking advantage of Olympic Airways' lowest domestic fare (less than 45 Euros one-way) from Athens to Milos. Thank you for your replies. They have been extremly helpful. It sounds amazing and me and my husband are very excited. Of course we want some hustle and bustle but nothing like NYC, (this is a vacation after all!) We have been to Greece many times but never to Milos. Now we are absolutly looking forward to it! I wish we could take a flight from AThens to Milos but we are already going to be in Paros with a group of freinds; so we must take a boat there unfortunatly.
thank u for your help.... see u in milos!

It is a wonderul island, we went there on our honeymoon last year. I strongly recommend Braukaut travel (google will get their web address) and they can arrange accommodation, car hire and ferry tix. Also very helpful and nice people. Polonia on the other side of the island from Adamas has a wonderful beach and a great fish restaurant opposite the bus stop.
Hope you have a great a time as we did.

Sueshearer,
You are obviously stalking my every forum post on VT to add a shameless plug promoting Braukaut (you do not even know how to spell their name) and you have the nerve to accuse *me* of promoting my own business? How dare you? First of all, Riva Travel is *not* my business! I recommend Riva Travel because they are both a complete service agency (land and marine travel) and offer car rental at www.milosrentacar.gr out of the same office. This is an unbeatable combination as no other agency in Milos can offer all of the above. In addition, they are the only smoke-free travel agency on the island. You are free to recommend Brau-something just as I am free to recommend Riva Travel, whom several people have found to be extremely helpful with *their* budget , *their* honeymoon, and *their* booking. My posts on VT as well as other websites are authoritative and informative, without *ever* promoting my business which is web design, BTW. I have never given the right to anyone to question my motives for posting in the VT forums. My participation on the various forum threads is driven purely out of a sincere desire to help people and provide a service to my native island, always on a volunteer basis. You are the one who is being extremely unfair, superficial and presumptuous. You ought to be ashamed of yourself! Andreas
