Austin Travel Forum

will be in austin for some days in the beginning of june...6/1-4. don't have a car, want to be in a hip, urban, arty area...hopefully not to expensive. would welcome suggestions re: hotels, neighborhoods, things to do, etc. have looked at past posts and have found them helpful so thanks in advance.

I think you would like the SOCO (South Congress) area for hip and arty...look into the Austin Motel for a place to stay http://www.austinmotel.com/ if you stay there you will be in the heart of Austin and walking distance to lots of cool things. As far as things to do, go see live music, watch the bats, take a walk on the hike and bike trail, go to Barton Springs, go to restaurants, walk the SOCO area and hang out at cool coffee shops and most of all have fun. For transportation you can take the Dillos (Free downtown and SOCO bus) and the bus called Tour of the Town, go to www.capmetro.com for information.

Hotel San Jose is a really neat place that's also right on South Congress. I've never actually stayed there, but I've gone there for cocktails. http://www.sanjosehotel.com
