Canyon Lodge in Yellowstone? If so, it was indeed one of the coldest areas in Yellowstone we've stayed in.
We usually travel late July, early August (before the 14th).
Cabins are "cozy" yet primitive.
I do remember first thing in the morning being so cold compared to say, Mammoth or Old Faithful or Lake cabins.
Keep the baby bundled!

We live near Yellowstone, and the only time we stay overnight, we do it with a hard sided 5th wheel trailer. It can be quite cold at nights, but I would assume that the lodge has heat for the rooms. I would recommend that you call the lodge and ask. Bring warm things for the baby any how, even though you are going to be there in July, and will most likely have warm weather, it isn't an absolute certainty. It can snow in the park any time of the year, so don't just pack shorts. Be sure you have some warm items for both you and the baby.

I am not sure what you mean by the best route.---You will need a car, there will be a lot of driving as the main park loop road is 142-miles in size. To see the sites, you will walk. How far you walk depends on what sites you are visiting. Be sure you have a baby back pack to carry the child in. In some places you could use a stroller, as there are board walks, but in others strollers would not work well.
