I would strongly suggest you train it from Amritsar to Delhi. The distance is about 400 kms and despite the good roads, it has heavy traffic and will take about 8 hours at the best. I am not certain of Cab pricing. But Rajdhani Express a air conditioned fast train from Amritsar makes it to Delhi in about -7 hours. As for Buses, there will be a bus every two or so. Prices in buses are extremely reasonable even if you opt for air conditioned luxury liners.

Hi,
As suggested above, taking a train would be a best decision. The Shatabdi Express or the Swarna Shatabdi Express takes a bit less than 6 hours and costs Rs. 650 one-way with food and refreshments served onboard (price inclusive in the ticket). There are many other trains which take about 8 hours and cost less. If you want to go by bus, there are many over-night buses that depart from near the Railway Station at night and costs between Rs. 150 - 250. But the journey is horrible as the driver won't take his hands off the Horn and you cannot sleep. Cabs will cost about Rs. 2000 plus. (If you want to spend that much, you can instead catch a flight)
