| Murano | Be careful with Vetreria Ducale Glass Firm Posted: Wed May 9, 2007 08:24 AM UTC
I subscribed an order with Vetreria Ducale during an excursion to the Venice islands organized by a local tourist trip booked in Venice.
During the trip we stopped in Murano and visited the Vetreria Ducale Firm. In the meantime I booked an order paying with credit cards. They ensured to send the products with carrier after some weeks. The products arrived, but they were not the same I saw during the visit, instead they were completely different. Now I started a long boring action to let them substitute the poor glasses sent with those beautiful glasses I looked during the visit. I ask: will my money never receive the right counterpart with appropriate glasses? I think: be careful with Vetreria Ducale. |

You should write a tip about this shop on your Venice page.

Did you pay by credit card if so it is quite possible that you could claim this against the credit card company who will try their utmost and tell you nothing to do with them but it is everything to do with them, if they say no ask on on what grounds they are refusing to pay.
Ask them to quote precisely where it states they are not responsible, every country has a sale of goods act legislation - you did not get what you ordered so you want your money back. Let me know how you get on and will be glad to help further.

So, after one day of telephone discussions with Vetreria Ducale, in which I had to listen comments like: "this one do understand anything", they took back the package. They didn't admit the mistake, but simply continuously told me that the glasses sent were better and more expensive than those in my order. Once sent back the wares, I didn't receive any information from them till now: neither they said the glasses arrived back to the firm, nor they informed me about the right products delivery.

My wife & I visited Vetreria Ducale glass factory on 11th October 2007 and purchased two very expensive pieces of their glassware. We were served by Ari and found him to be most polite and helpful. We were informed that the items in question would be despatched in approx. 4 weeks.and left very pleased with our purchase. Today, the items arrived in perfect order two weeks early, beautifully packed and no question as to the pieces being changed from the originals we saw on the 11th during our visit.
We have been a little worried since reading of your experience but feel it a little unfair to condemn the company outright. We would definitely re-visit on future trips to Venice and reccomend that other's visit and ask for Ari requesting him to take them to the upstairs showroom. Well Done Vetreria Ducale.

We visited Vetreria Ducale among other factory stores last month and purchased a beautiful vase about 24 inched tall, clear glass mixed with 24-ct. gold flecks. We spent more than we expected to, but Murano glass is a very special and ancient art. The factories are having trouble keeping young folks around to carry on the centuries-old tradition. The artisans must train for years.
At Vetreria Ducale, we saw the most beautiful pieces of the shops we visited. Many are museum quality. (By the way, do visit the glass museum on Murano before you purchase. You'll know more about the glass.) When we chose our vase, our salesman ensured that I would get the piece I picked out by having me initial the front of the vase (in washable ink) in two places, which he then covered with scotch tape. After we completed the sale, he offered us a glass of wine to celebrate. The price includes shipping and insurance. We were called by Vetreria Ducale's customs agent in the US who notified us that our vase had arrived and who had us fill out a form delegating them authority to handle the customs taxes. We returned it and sent a check for the customs taxes and received our vase about a week later, with the scotch tape still intact, carefully wrapped in bubble-wrap, and packed in a very large wooden box (about 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 3 ft)surrounded by packing peanuts and a copy of our receipt. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. I would trust Vetreria Ducale.
