San Gimignano Il Casolare di libbiano (farmhouse near SG) - Ques. about pymt?
Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 07:03 PM UTC
We are booking several nights at the above farmhouse near SG, which came highly recommended on here! In order to finalize they have asked us to send the first nights payment by a bank transfer. No CC option. Is that pretty common for small places like this - or common for Italy generally?

TIA

The Casolare di libbiano is a B&B, in other words a very small establishment. Even if they have contracts with credit cards they probably have only the cheaper kind, in other words, they can process payments only by swiping a card in the POS machine. It is very common for small businesses. In the place where I work we have contracts that enable us to debit money using only the credit card details, but the commissions are much higher, so for us it's worthwhile only because we do several thousands of transactions a year.
By the way, have you asked them if they accept credit cards for on-site payments? With small businessses it is better to ask.

I have not asked them if they accept CC payment for on-site payments. I will do that. They do accept personal check, but the whole dollar to Euro thing scared me off that one.

Thanks for your thoughts. Just wanted to make sure it was legit. Looking forward to our stay there!
