I went in the middle of rainy season last Feb. It rained maybe a 1/2 hour a day. It was beautiful! You can also float "through" the jungle due to the high water levels in the river. I prefer to travel in the rainy season... less people, more options... unless of course you're talking about road conditions :-)

Hello,
I was in Iquitos in May. It was towards the end of the rainy season - hot and humid with some early morning or mid-afternoon rain. It wasn't enough to keep us indoors. If you'll be using Iquitos as a starting point for a jungle expedition, then I would suggest going in May instead of March (though I was told by the locals that June is the ideal time to visit). Many of the trails will be washed away because of the high water levels and the ground will be very muddy (though most lodges provide visitors with rain boots). Enjoy your stay and don't forget to visit the floating market in Belem. Regards, Chryselle

I went to Cusco/Machu Picchu and then Iquitios/Rainforest in Feb/March of 2000. The temperature was awesome, and because it was towards the end of the rainy season, everything was lush and green. The biggest downside was mosquitios. Lots of 'em. Check out www.pachamama.net. Lyn (my Mom) can answer any questions you have, although she is leaving soon on another trip to Peru.

The jungle in Iquitos and Tarapoto is different because altitudes are not the same. Iquitos is in the area called low jungle and Tarapoto in the high jungle. I recommend you to visit both places.
