| Faroe Islands | Travel in Winter Posted: Mon May 7, 2007 09:29 PM UTC
I hope this doesn't sound too dumb, lol
1) Is it recommendable to visit the Faroe Islands in January (i.e. is that a nice time to go? I'm interested in seeing natural scenery)? 2) Is flying/going there on a boat more difficult during this time? 3) Would there be a significant price difference during this time? |

weatehr will almost always be a bit cold up there so as long as you are prepared for strong winds and rain you will be ok.
taking the ferry there might be hard as i doubt it runs very frequent that time of year. there will be plenty of flights though and they will probaply be cheaper than in the summer. atlantic airways is the national carrier of the faroe islands. apart from the airline prices i think you will find little difference in prices though.

A couple of extra details I got from research for my upcoming trip here:
- Take a look at the Bradt Travel Guide for the Faroe Islands. It has a section on the pros and cons of travel to the Faroes in winter (summary: it's dark, wet, and extremely windy). - The ferry runs weekly to the Faroe Islands from Seyðisfjørður, Iceland; Bergen, Norway; and Hantsholm, Denmark in winter. check out http://www.smyril-line.com for details. Ferry prices are likely to be quite cheap. Be prepared for VERY rough seas that time of year, though. - The Faroese national airline is Atlantic Airways, offering regularly scheduled service to/from Iceland, Britain, Norway, and Denmark. Be aware that flights can be cancelled due to bad weather, which is quite often during the wintertime. Check out http://www.atlantic.fo for booking information (tip: if you can somehow manage Faroese or Danish, you'll be able to book the tickets in Danish Kroner rather than the British Pounds at the English site, thus saving you about 10-15%).
