| Izmir Ili | cesme to gallipoli Posted: Mon May 7, 2007 10:51 AM UTC
I am spending a week in Cesme in mid-May and want to visit Gallipoli to see the Helles Memorial where my Grandfather is commemorated. I would prefer not to drive and wondered if there are trips organised from Cesme to Gallipoli for one or two days.
Alternatively is it possible to hire a car and driver to do a bespoke trip staying overnight in Cannakale, visiting the war sites and returning to Cesme the following day. All suggestions and advice welcome, this is our first trip to Turkey |

Hello Tom
Well come to your Grandfathers home. Your Grandfathers home because of a speech delivered by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk on 1934. Ataturk's praise of foreign troops "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now living in the soil of a friendly country, therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... You, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe your tears, your sons are now living in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." Please visit my Galibolu page From Cesme you can find wvwry time bus to Canakkale. If not you can take the bus to Izmir 80 Kms. Izmir is the province capital city. From Izmir you can find every time busses to Canakkale. Cabakkale is on Asian part. Gallipoli battlefields are on European side. In canakkale there are many tourist agencies who will serve you as a advisor. In cesme it may cost you doppel then in Canakkale. You can contact one of the acencies for a mixed touristic trip with others or you can have a persponal guide for the tour. First go to Canakkale. The clerc at the hotel reception can also help you. Have a nice time in Turkey.
