There is no shortage of things to do in Antigua. It really depends what your style is and how crazy you like to get. A few places that are sure bets for meeting people are the mono loco and the sky bar. Right next door to the mono loco is another place that has salsa dancing most nights of the week. I stayed with a family so I am not sure what the best deals on hotels are, but there are several good options just to the west of parque central but also to the east by sky bar.

thanks for the info...i was in antigua 2 years ago but I think the places you recommended are the same ones I visited last time...does the place that hosts the salsa lessons have a hotel on top? excited to get back and see what i remember.

i think the hotel/club you're thinking of is 'La Sin Ventura'. the rooms are clean and relatively inexpensive. the last time i stayed there the cost was about $25.00 a night for a single. the club downstairs makes sleeping in the early evening a problem but if you're dancing.......

I just returned two days ago. I loved Kaffka, which is on corner at 6 Ave Norte and Santa Rosa, right across from Le Merced. Also, Monoloca is packed on Tuesdays. O'Reilly's is jammed and Frida's looks pretty busy. There is a new dance "club" across from O'Reilly's on 5 Avenida Norte next to the Arch. Also, Saturday's are suppose to be decent at the German Bar on 7 Ave Norte just about a 3 minute walk from Kaffka. They have german beer, large outdoor garden and a pig roast on Saturdays. Bavaria Jardin. My pages will be updated by end of the week. Email me if you have any questions. L

The problem in Antigua is..there's plenty of nightlife Friday and Saturday, but the rest of the week, and during the daytime, there's practicly nothing to do!I would consider going to either San Pedro,Attitlan or Rio Dulce,Izabal. In these destinations, you can hike, fish, swim and explore the spectacular Cloud Forests,Rivers, hotsprings, and Jungles of Guat.during the day,and do some prime partying at night!

Trivial, but the very first thing to do is to find the pastry shop La Cenicienta (Cinderella), and have a couple of chocolate macaroons. It'll fix ya. 5a Avenida Norte #7
Otherwise, you can see my page. In addition to what everyone does, I recommend the Casa Popenoe (I have a pic. of it on my intro page) and, last but not least, do NOT neglect the more populous area around the markets and the bus depot. Buon Viaje!

Besides a walking tour in the town, climb Pacaya Volcano.
