Ill be spending 6 months in Salvador da Bahia and I'd like to use the time to finally learn how to swim, among other things. Can anyone tell me where I can take swimming lessons?

It depends on where you end up living.
How are your plans going? Hope you got a lot of help from the other lawyer who posted, "saramcb", about having lived here.

There is an athletic club in Porto da Barra that has 3 big pools. (Entrance is next to the "main" bus stop, a couple of blocks off Avenida 7.)

You could also try these gyms/swim centers (bairro included in address):
