Pittsburgh Ideas for one day + night in Pittsburgh?
Posted: Sun May 6, 2007 11:56 AM UTC
Hi guys,
my friend will be in Pittsburgh the 25th of May. What should he definately not miss within that only day? And are there any good and reasonable prized restaurants, bars where to go in the evening?
Is there maybe a nice factory outlet between NYC and Pittsburgh?
Thanks for your help,
Chris + Frank.

If I was going to be in Pittsburgh, I would to to The Mattress Factory, which is a museum of contemporary art.

The National Aviary is also in Pittsburgh

These are two opportunities that are unique to Pittsburgh.

I agree the aviary is a good spot to visit. Try out the incline plane for a great view of the city. The strip district is a great place to shop for food and eat it as well. Pramani brothers restaurant is a Pittsburgh icon with strange sandwiches . If you into beer try the Church werks just up the street from the strip district and give their cask ale a try, they also have a great menu. The Andy Warhol museum is a real treat, I thought I wouldn't like it but it was great. You can find many of these things to do on Pittsburgh pages in VT. Have fun!

Take the incline up to the top of Mount Washington for the best view of the city. If you like art, go to either the Andy Warhol Museum on the North Side or the Carnegie Museum in the Oakland section (3-4 miles east of downtown). Also in the Oakland section, the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh is definitely unique from an architectural standpoint.

I have always enjoyed just wandering the different areas of the city such as downtown, Southside, and the Strip District. The Duquesne Incline and Monongahela Incline up to Mt Washington offer great views of downtown, and I agree with some of the other posts about checking out the Cathedral of Learning at the U of Pitt campus. If you are into sports, the Pirates might be in town, and they play in the best stadium in baseball.

The most famous and most original local restaurant is Primanti's. Their original location in the Strip District is open 24/7 so it's a great place to stop for lunch or after a night at the bars and clubs in that section of town (Smallman & Penn Sts). Other popular nightlife areas include the Southside (Carson St) with live bands and neighborhood bars.
