| Bermuda | Newlywed Soldier off to War wants to Honeymoon in Bermuda Upon Return Posted: Fri May 4, 2007 03:16 AM UTC
But I don't know when I'm coming home to Boston. Although it isn't rated as high as some other resorts...Groto Bay is where we want to stay. I'ld truly appreciate any and all responses and hope to open this posting into a forum of open discussion that will eventually prepare for my reunion and honeymoon tarvel.

SSG Hollett-
First, let me say, I hope for you the best. And, thank you for your bravery and selflessness. It is a rare Human Being that would do what you are doing. Now, on to the Hotel. Grotto Bay is a wonderful destination hotel/resort. It was completely remodeled about 5 years ago, and was completely repaired from Hurricane Fabian. It's on North Shore near some of the Island's tourist draws (Crystal Caves, The Perfumery, The Swizzle Inn <--- dont ask Ann 'TheTravelSlut' about that. She still blames me for her hangover). Wheels Cycles has a booth at the lobby of the hotel (I think) so if you want to rent mo-peds to see the Island on your own, that's available (they also deliver). Also, you would be right on the North Shore bus line (about 50 yards or so away). The transportation is fairly good (but a bit spendy). You will definitely want to spend a day on South Shore for the beaches, although, Grotto Bay's beaches are quite cool. Also, spend a day in Hamilton (the City of) looking at the historical architecture. It too, is quite cool. You'll be near the original capital of Bermuda, St. Georges, but, I found it kind of touristy. If you *do* go, have lunch/dinner at the White Horse (they have Guinness. That's a plus in my book). What are you looking to do there? What are your interests? Whatever they are, you'll have a GREAT time! Jeff-

Although I haven't done this myself, it looks like you might have fun fishing for rockfish through an operator called Jump 'dem Bones! http://jumpdembones.08.free.bm/ I found their prices quite steep, but their website had previously outlined all that could be done on a charter (maximum 2 guests) and this husband-wife team would cook up a romantic beach-side fire and meal at the end of the day. The rockfish are found in the shallows of the north shore - this would be a great way to see the island from the water.
I agree, if you stay at Grotto Bay, it is less congested than the south beaches and would be a comfortable place to get used to driving a scooter.

Am sure you will enjoy Bermuda there really are lots of different things to do it all depends on what your likes are.
We like the bus/ferry system where a pass allows you to use the buses and ferries as much as you want for one charge per day, week or month. Walking the RailRoad trail is easy travel since it is level and works well with bus pass as you can get off a bus one place and catch another at the end of your walk. We have stayed at Grotto Bay and you will find a little information about it on my website here also this is the website for the hotel http://www.grottobay.com/ if you have not already found it. When you stay at Grotto Bay be sure to walk through Blue Hole Park across the road at the bottom of the hill. If you are interested in history you will find lots all over Bermuda. St Georges is interesting to walk through and see the little streets and alleys but continue out to Tobacco Bay and Fort St Catherines to see a couple of beaches and of course the Fort. Hope others will give you some more ideas or maybe I can add more later. Bill
