SSG Hollett-
First, let me say, I hope for you the best. And, thank you for your bravery and selflessness. It is a rare Human Being that would do what you are doing.
Now, on to the Hotel. Grotto Bay is a wonderful destination hotel/resort. It was completely remodeled about 5 years ago, and was completely repaired from Hurricane Fabian. It's on North Shore near some of the Island's tourist draws (Crystal Caves, The Perfumery, The Swizzle Inn <--- dont ask Ann 'TheTravelSlut' about that. She still blames me for her hangover). Wheels Cycles has a booth at the lobby of the hotel (I think) so if you want to rent mo-peds to see the Island on your own, that's available (they also deliver).
Also, you would be right on the North Shore bus line (about 50 yards or so away). The transportation is fairly good (but a bit spendy). You will definitely want to spend a day on South Shore for the beaches, although, Grotto Bay's beaches are quite cool. Also, spend a day in Hamilton (the City of) looking at the historical architecture. It too, is quite cool. You'll be near the original capital of Bermuda, St. Georges, but, I found it kind of touristy. If you *do* go, have lunch/dinner at the White Horse (they have Guinness. That's a plus in my book).
What are you looking to do there? What are your interests? Whatever they are, you'll have a GREAT time!
