Re: Arles and Van Gogh paintings? Posted: Sun May 6, 2007 10:08 PM UTC
There are a couple of museums and galleries, they have a couple of Picassos, but unfortunately none of the Van Gogh paintings stayed in the town itself. Otherwise it is a very beautiful Provençal town. Their saturday market is definitely worth checking out to get the feel of a traditional French market. A couple of sights that has inspired his paintings has been preserved. Helpful signs take you on a self-guided tour of his work as well as the town (it's not that big). Montpellier has just reopened their art gallery from years of renovation so that might be worth checking out. Otherwise, Marseille or Nice or maybe even Perpignan or Lyon might be your next best bet.
