We will be in Monterey the last week-end of July and first week of August.

What does the Aquarium offer in structured, group experiences and activities for 10 year olds? And adults?

It looks like they offer a lot of stuff for children and adults. I was there a few years back and thought it was probably one of the best aquariums I've been to. Be sure to check into a whale-watching trip while you're there as well.

Definitely don't go there on the weekend! We went on a Saturday in July and were SOOO disappointed! It was so crowded you could hardly move, and adults could care less about letting children see and just pushed their way to the front. We only saw one show because there was over an hour's wait in line to get in. Go early on a weekday!

Good point - I was there in January - very off season!

As was previously said anytime during the summer and especially on Weekends it is going to be very busy. If you must go on a weekend be sure to get there early. They will stop allowing people in if it gets too crowded. Also, be sure to buy your tickets On-Line before you go, this will save you time no matter when you go.

If you do go the one thing your 10yo might like is the Underwater Explorers class. This is where they are with the staff members and get to use SCUBA Gear. They basically get to be in the Tide Pool at the aquarium. It is for 8-13 year olds and unfortunatly mine was too young but it looked like it was a lot of fun.
