I'm planning a trip to Switzerland and Bern will be one of my destinations. Wich is the best neighborhood in the town to stay? Does Bern have subway?

Regards!

The old town would be the best, as it is quite nice. Bern doesn't have a subway as such (it is far to small for this) but the tram and bus system is quite good. the old town is easily explored on foot.

To add to KVB's answer: There are no "bad" neighbourhoods in Bern, you're safe pretty much anywhere. I agree that staying in the Altstadt is a good option (if you can afford the hotels), as you're right in the middle of everything. But even if you're not staying in the city center, you can get there by public transport (bus and tram) in a couple minutes. Bern is small :-).

There are indeed no "bad" neighbourhoods in Bern, but I would avoid the area around the main station at the moment. Mostly because right now that part of town is one big building site...

Hi all,

Will staying around the main station. Is the area easy to access (dragging the luggage) since I heard there is a construction nearby?

Thank you in advance.

the situation around the station has improved somewhat. Most of the big work is finished.
You won't encounter to much trouble now.
