| Huangshan | Visiting HuangShan in June Posted: Sun April 29, 2007 07:23 AM UTC
Hi, I have several questions about HuangShan:
1. I will be flying from Shanghai to Huangshan. What city should I fly into that would be closest to the Huangshan park? 2. What is the nearest city to the Huangshan main entrance? What are the best hotels to stay at there? I will be traveling with my father, and want to stay at the best hotel possible--price is no obstacle. 3. We plan on hiking to the top, but I heard that the trail is not that scenic. Would you recommend taking the cable car instead and hiking down? 4. What are the best hotels to stay at at the top of the mountain? 5. I've heard about hot springs on or near the mountain. how do I get to them and can I stay at a hotel near them? I really appreciate any help--this trip is a special one for my father and I, a sort of a father-son bonding trip. thanks!! |

1. There is direct flight to HuangShan (fm HK). You can check is it also provided fm Shanghai. Otherwise, can travel to HuangShan from Hangzhou.
2. Last time I stayed in HuangShan Golf Hotel (address: 黃山市屯&a 3 & 4. My hiking route is take cable car to front mountain and stay in "YuBingLou Hotel". This hotels is not vry big but seems there is no other choice (If not remember wrong). But you just need to walk around 5-10min to a good place to watch sunrise from this hotel. After enjoy the sunrise, you can begin to hiking from the front mountain to rear mountain. The scenic is very beautiful during the route and especially at the top of the mountain. There are more hotels for you to choose in rear mountain. Saw some foreigners stayed in "BeiHai Hotel". 5. I think there is no more hot spring at HuangShan region now because there is mainteance/construction there. PS. - as its different to predict the weather in HuangShan, remember to prepare raincoast with you. - try to bring not much belongings in your backpack when hiking, there is some people can help you to deliver your lauggage to the hotels you stay. But I forget the price la. - you can take a look of my travel page about HuangShan Hope you have fun in HuangShan ^^

Huang Shan means Yellow Mountain so yellow mark instead of book mark.
We just spent 2 days at Huang Shan but only 1 day at the mountain. I think 2 days at the mountain is better staying overnight in the park. But I do not speak chinese so I don't know how to make a resevation at a hotel.

1) Why fly? Just take the overnight train. In any case the nearest airport is called Huangshan.
2) City would be Tunxi aka Huangshan city, still 1.5 hours from Huangshan mountain itself. Town would be Tangkou, at the foot of the mountain. So which one are you looking for? 3) My best recommendation for you would be to make a detour to the north side of Huangshan and take the Taiping cable car up, that has FANTASTIC views. Then if you're interested in hiking I would strongly recommend you to hike the West Sea Canyon. The trailhead is at Paiyunlou and you would end at Baiyun Hotel. It would take about 5 hours and please don't do it if you won't have enough daylight time to get to the end, or if the weather is anything but good! 4) Probably Xihai Hotel. Baiyun Hotel was quite good enough for us though. 5) I think the hot springs are closed at the moment.
