Stoupa BUILDING WORK?
Posted: Sat April 28, 2007 07:59 PM UTC
Help please!!! I have booked a fortnight in the George's Apts in Stoupa and have come across some comments that there is building work going on. Can anyone enlighten me as its my first holiday as a single parent and I'm already nervous without thinking there may be some building work happening that may spoil this really special holiday!

How, and who with, have you booked the accommodation in Stoupa?

Perhaps you should contact them and ask for an assurance, in writing, that your holiday will not be disturbed.
We experienced this in Mojacar in southern Spain in 2000 when we found "Casa Barranca" the lovely villa we had rented (and it was a beautiful property) far from being luxuriously furnished as advertised, was full of cheap, tatty 2nd hand furniture.
Never mind, there was a super kitchen/diner which led out onto a magnificent terrace with a beautiful view.

The problem was that from 8am to 7pm with a one hour break at mid-day, earth-moving equipment was busy removing the adjacent mountain to build dozens of apartments and villas.

The noise and dust were horrendous.

We had rented through privately - pre-internet - and when we rang the owner in Newcastle on Tyne to complain he swore he had no knowledge of the construction work and promised generous cpmpensation - which we never received.
The specialist holiday property publication in which he advertised accepted no resposibility.

So do obtain a written statement about the location of the property you have rented and about any known construction work in the vicinity which could affect your enjoyment.

The problem was that from 8am to 7pm, with a one hour break at mid-day, earth-moving equipment was busy removing a great chunk of the adjacent Indalo mountain to build dozens of apartments and villas.

The noise and dust were horrendous.

We had rented privately - pre-internet - and when we rang the owner in Newcastle on Tyne to complain he swore he had no knowledge of the construction work and promised generous compensation - which we never received.
The specialist holiday property publication in which he advertised accepted no responsibility.

So do obtain a written statement about the location of the property you have rented and about any known construction work in the vicinity which could affect your enjoyment. It could be crucial in any future complaint - which hopefully will not arise.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I will be writing to Manos and also contacting them by phone first thing Monday morning. Its a worrying situation and I have no desire to be featured in Holidays from hell!
Thanks again!
