| Riyadh | Voltage and Carrying Electronics to Riyadh Posted: Sat April 28, 2007 04:49 PM UTC
I was curious to know how digital cameras, ipods, laptops, electronic tootbrush bought in the USA would work in Riyadh. Would I need to buy a special voltage converter?
For those whoh have carried electronics from here please share how you continue to use them. |

Don't worry about it. The plugs here will take your electronics. No problem.

Well, our voltage here in saudi arabia is either 110 or 220 so, you will be able to use all of your electronics without a special converter. also we have the same frequency as USA which is 60Hz. Wish you the best in Riyadh

Hi,
I would devide Electronic devices in two main categories: - carry-on devices - static devices Regarding the carry-on devices, they are multi voltage devices and can be used with 110V, 22OV, 50Hz and 60Hz in all combinations, like (digital cameras, ipods, laptops) The other category are all the other havy or static devices, here you have to check the specs fo each individual device. The power available in Saudi is 110V and 220V with 60Hz frequency, 110V sockets are the standard and the 220V are just few in the house. The plugs are not an issue, you can get adapters in all malls, but be carefull if you bay cheap China stuff, it may start burning. Rgrds, MM

Most items will work and you wont have any problems with regards to the voltage required for the appliances to work. However, I will offer you some advice re. TV's. I brought my small Panasonic TV from the UK over, and there is no sound coming out. This is to do with a different frequency being used here and therefore older TV models do not comply with.
A friend of mine came from the states along with his huge 42"+ Sony TV, and he had the same problem. He took it to the Sony repair centre and they said it could not be fixed. He was gutted as he had many offers for his TV in states prior to leaving. I guess we can still use our tvs to play dvd's etc, but can't watch terestrial tv. Hope this is useful. J

Many people mark as 110V - but it is wrong the system voltage here is 127V / 220V
ie - 127/220 -one system - Phase to Neutral = 127V and P to Phase is 220V 220/380 is other system. HZ is 60 you will be able to use all of your electronics without any problem and all adopter available in most of the supermarkets.
